How I Started My Virtual Assistant Business

You know you want to be your own boss, set your own hours, and have financial freedom, but where do you even start?

If you were like me, you know that there are a million ways to make money online, but with so much information out there, it’s very difficult to figure out what is legitimate, and what is just going to waste your time and drain your wallet.

For me, it started with a sponsored ad on Facebook.

I was feeling particularly down that day, thinking about our finances and desperately wishing for a way that I could start using my skills, while also staying at home with my children. For some reason, this ad caught my eye, probably because the woman on camera looked like me. A mom, sitting in her living room, not looking particularly put together, just talking to me through my cell phone screen like we were old friends. She spoke about leaving her corporate job and working from home and the steps she took to become a Virtual Assistant.

I’d never heard of a Virtual Assistant before then, but I knew within the first hour of this webinar (that the ad took me to) that I had the skills necessary to pursue this path.

From there I just dove into days and days of rabbit trails on the internet. I read blogs, listened to podcasts, watched youtube videos, stalked facebook groups, and soaked up every single piece of information I could get my hands on.

I did everything in my power to set myself up for success. If I didn’t know how – I learned how. I built a website, learned every skill that I felt was in my wheelhouse and started prospecting. I landed my first client through a personal connection and managed a business email and a few social media accounts. It wasn’t a high paying gig, but it was a foot in the door and the experience I needed.

From there, I started to grow. Day in and day out I would reach out, make connections, learn new skills, rinse and repeat.

I’d be lying to you if I told you that it was easy. Truthfully, it is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever accomplished in my life, but also one of the most rewarding thus far. It was and still is a work in progress.

One of the very best things that being a VA has taught me, is a true understanding of how the online world works. I say the online world, because it truly is, in a lot of ways a world of its own. Once you start your VA business you will start to learn all the other ways that you can be successful online. The knowledge that I’ve gained is priceless!

Now you might be saying, “that’s great Peggy, I’d like to do what you did, but I literally don’t know where to start!”. I knew that you’d say that, which is why I created a guide just for you.
