You didn’t sign up to be a content creator, did you? If you’re like most of my clients, you started your business to sell a service you’re good at. Yet here you are, feeling more like a full-time marketer than whatever you actually set out to be. Truth bomb: The online market is saturated. But don’t panic—there’s always room for business owners who know what they’re doing, who offer exceptional value, and who are willing to put in the work to stand out. And that’s exactly what we’re talking about today: how to purposefully grow your audience with people who are ready to buy from you. Not just any audience—the right audience.
You HAVE to Stand Out (Period. The End.)
You cannot create subpar, boring content that everyone else is putting out and expect to grow your business. It’s that simple.
If you’re blending into a sea of sameness, you need to fix it—and quickly. There are too many good creators out there doing an excellent job of selling their stuff.
But standing out isn’t just about creating compelling content. It’s about creating scroll-stopping content that’s different enough that someone can immediately think, “She’s for me.”
The differentiating factor might be your unique position, your energy, or how you show up. But there are some key elements that make all the difference:
- Your ability to catch attention (and keep it)
- Speaking directly and specifically to what your ideal clients are experiencing
- Addressing their pain points and desires with laser precision
Generic statements like “I can help you grow your business” won’t cut it anymore. Everyone and their mom is saying that.
Instead, try: “I can help you make six figures in your business year after year working part-time through a simple, sustainable, and scalable business structure.”
See the difference? Specificity is what makes people stop scrolling.
Get Micro-Specific With Their Problems
Generalized problem: “You’re tired of feeling tired all the time.”
Micro-specific problem: “You’re so tired of hitting your alarm in the morning and feeling like you could sleep another two hours, then struggling throughout the day with the only thing on your mind being getting back in bed.”
That level of specificity makes your ideal client think, “Was she in my room this morning? This is creepy.” That’s how specific you want to get.
It’s not about zooming out—it’s about zooming in, then zooming in further, and then asking, “Can we go a little bit further?” That’s the specificity that stops the scroll.
Your Content Isn’t Working? Your Audience Size Might Be to Blame
Here’s what many business owners miss: you can create amazing content with great hooks and scroll-stopping specificity, and it still might not work.
Why? Because your audience is stagnant.
If you’re not bringing in new eyeballs, it’s just the same people seeing your content. And they might not be ready to buy, or they’re not the right fit, or they’re just a buyer type that takes a while.
This is why lead generation is just as crucial as content creation.
Manual Lead Generation: The Secret Weapon
If you have a budget for ads, great! Run your ads. But you can also do this manually, and it works incredibly well.
When you know who your ideal client is, what they’re calling themselves, what keywords they’re using, and what hashtags they’re following, you can find them and get in front of them manually.
We can’t rely solely on the algorithm, especially if we don’t have a big audience. The algorithm doesn’t always favor small creators, so we have to take control.
The Perfect Balance: Lead Gen + Content
Getting new people to your profile is where lead generation comes in. Keeping them there? That’s where your content shines.
When someone new discovers you and visits your profile, they need to see enough compelling content to think, “She’s for me, and I want to follow her.”
Then, your ongoing content nurtures that relationship, leading to sales. Ideally, you’re also creating content that starts conversations and allows you to build genuine connections.
If your business isn’t making what you want it to make, or your content isn’t performing the way you’d like, it’s likely a combination of your content quality and your audience size.
