Your Seniority in the Online Space Doesn’t Matter, But This Does

If you’ve been in business for several years and you’re wondering why newcomers seem to be getting better results with less effort, this might be a tough pill to swallow. I hear it all the time from established business owners: “I don’t understand why I’m having to work so hard to get the same results as people who just started a year ago.” You’re feeling like your seniority should count for something, right? Well, buckle up, because what I’m about to tell you might trigger you—or it might be exactly the motivation you need.

The Online Space Doesn’t Care About Your Years in Business

Here’s the harsh truth: the online space doesn’t give a damn about seniority. It doesn’t care if you’ve been grinding for 10 years or 10 minutes. While your experience and social proof matter when clients are making hiring decisions, they mean absolutely nothing if you’re expecting them to automatically bring clients to your door.

You can’t do less than the hungry newcomers and expect better results just because you’ve been around longer. That’s not how this works anymore. The online business landscape has evolved, and you need to evolve with it.

Visibility Wins the Game Every Time

The business that stays most consistently visible in front of their ideal clients is the one that wins. Period.

I know that’s not what you want to hear. I know you were hoping for some “set it and forget it” magic formula. But that’s simply not reality—especially for coaches, consultants, service providers, and course creators who need a steady stream of clients to grow.

You have to continually earn your place through visibility. If you’re not consistently showing up where your ideal clients are, someone else will take that spot. Your ideal clients aren’t meticulously researching every potential person they could work with—they’re swiping, scrolling, and the person who consistently shows up with clear, potent messaging is the one they’ll remember when they’re ready to buy.

Your Experience IS Your Edge (But Only If You Use It)

Here’s the silver lining: if you have authority, years of experience, social proof, and accolades—yes, you absolutely have an edge. You will stand out better and convert more sales, but only if you’re actively marketing and leveraging that advantage consistently.

Your experience matters, but only if you’re:

  1. Using it in your messaging
  2. Getting just as visible (or more visible) than your competition
  3. Evolving your offers to meet current market needs

Remember that not every ideal client is ready to buy right now. I’ve had people come back to me after one, two, or even three years of following my content. This is a long game—an ultra marathon that never ends.

The Online Space Requires Constant Evolution

The industry shifts constantly. Trends change. Market demands evolve. What worked in 2019 or 2020 simply doesn’t work now.

I’ve watched coaches who had million-dollar years back then post about how it all crashed and burned. Why? Because they refused to evolve with the changing landscape.

If you approach your business with a victim mentality—”I don’t get it, I’ve been in business so long, why isn’t this easier?”—you’re setting yourself up for failure. It’s okay to be irritated about it (valid feelings!), but don’t stay there. If you stay in that mindset, your business dies.

Time Won’t Fix Your Business—Strategic Action Will

“Give it time” is the worst advice for a struggling business. It’s not about time—it’s about strategic action.

If you’re not taking intentional, strategic actions to change where you are now and get where you want to be, nothing changes. Time alone fixes nothing. But consistent, strategic effort over time? That’s when magic happens.

I’m all about working less and simplifying your business. But if you’re not where you want to be, if your business isn’t structured simply, and if you’re not bringing in the clients you need—you might have to put in those 40-50 hour weeks for a while to earn your way to part-time success.

This is my reality because I put in those 50-60 hour workweeks earlier in my business. Now I can work less because I built systems that allow for it.

Make Space for What Matters

If you know you need to spend two hours a day marketing, you need to find that time. If you need to build a more scalable offer, you need to find that time. If your current client load isn’t allowing for growth, something has to change.

Maybe you wake up earlier. Maybe you work weekends for a season. Maybe you let a client go to create margin. Whatever it takes, you need to figure it out because absolutely nothing changes if nothing changes.

The Hard Truth: Get Support or Stay Stuck

You will be in exactly the same place next year if you don’t decide right now that something’s going to be different.

If you feel like you’re doing everything right and nothing’s working, there are gaps you can’t see. That’s normal. It happens to all of us. But it also means you need support from someone who can identify those blind spots.

It’s not an accident that I’ve consistently made six figures for six years straight—through the boom times and the busts, through all the industry fluctuations. I’ve built a business that’s structured for simplicity and sustainability, and I can teach you to do the same.

Don’t let this be another motivational piece you read and then forget about. Let this be the pivotal moment when things change for you.
