Today, we’re gonna have a heart-to-heart chat. Do you know how you can get what you want out of life? I know that’s a loaded topic for a heart-to-heart, but I want to talk to you about it specifically today because, over the past two weeks, I have done a lot of self-reflection.
So let’s talk about how to truly get what you want out of life:
Honor yourself first
Honor yourself in your business. How do you want to run your business? We are so good collectively as women business owners, at deciding what is and isn’t possible for us based on our obstacles, and based on a million factors. We are really good at finding reasons why we can’t and why now is not the right time. We need to get tired of coming up with these excuses for ourselves, and think about the question “What do I want?”.
So many of us are not pursuing what we want with the gusto that we should be giving it because we are just anchored into our excuses. Our excuses have become much stronger than pursuing the life that we actually want to lead.
Your business should support your life vision
Maybe right now you’re dealing with a life “thing” where you feel like you’re not getting what you need, and this is not the life that you want. It could be a relationship, a job, or something else. It’s important to get really clear with what you do want.
And then obviously on a bigger scale, ask yourself if your actions are leading you closer, keeping you in the same place, or taking you farther away from what you want.
Is your business supporting the vision you have for your life?
Get aligned
Sometimes your dreams are not big enough. What I mean by that is they’re not actually what you want, they’re what you feel is possible for you. That is an important distinction. On a more personal level, it’s the same reason that people stay in marriages that are not fulfilling. Asking for more when you know you might not get it is more painful than just dealing with your reality. Even when that reality is not exactly what you want. It’s the same with business. You’ll set a goal that falls short of your real dreams because you think that’s achievable and you’re not going to get disappointed.
We make all of these compromises in an effort to keep ourselves as safe as we can. But at the end of the day, we don’t feel safer. You don’t feel better. You don’t feel more aligned. You don’t feel more at peace. You don’t get what you want. It’s a lie that we tell ourselves.
We have to make sure we are in alignment with what we ACTUALLY want.
How do we get what we want?
This can be uncomfortable and scary, and it usually involves other people. Sometimes it means we have to tell people “this is how it’s going to be”. And both of those things are hard to do. But the alternative is you will not live a life of fulfillment. You will be living out of alignment, because you know what you want and you can’t have it. You have to be super, super honest with yourself. Be committed to being really anchored into honesty, down to the core of what you need and want in every aspect of your life and business. They’re interchangeable.
Don’t play safe
Playing it safe can feel like the comfortable thing to do in the moment, but ultimately it doesn’t get you anywhere. It doesn’t get you close to where you want to be. Why do we play so small? Why do we live years and years and years not going after the things that we want?
You’ve got to go for it. You’ve got to ask for it. You’ve got to work toward it. You must be unapologetic about what it is that you want. And then actually take the steps, make the plan, create the plan, and execute the plan.
This isn’t easy stuff, guys. There is no way but through, and no one can do this work for you. The only thing I can promise you is that it is WORTH IT. And that the struggle is equal to the freedom it creates.
