4 marketing strategies that worked 5 years ago (and still work today)

Today we’re talking about four marketing strategies that worked five years ago and still work today. These are marketing strategies that I’ve personally used in the past and that I’m still utilizing today. I want to talk about the nuances of some of these strategies. To be honest, some of them might be slightly controversial or might not be mainstream. So let’s talk about it!

#1 You can offer free offers

I’ve heard a lot of people saying  “do not give away your services for free”, and it’s not that I completely disagree because as a rule, it’s not bad advice.  But here’s something to consider:  giving away free offers strategically is a lot like showing up on social media.  We invest time on social media to create content that speaks to our ideal client. Over time, that content will reach the right audience and pay off for us. And listen, we are not doing it out of desperation, we are doing it strategically.

In the same way, these free offers aren’t necessarily about booking another client, it’s about making the personal connection. Because when you can make a personal connection with an ideal client, they are way more likely to buy from you, either right away or down the road.

#2 Getting visible in Facebook groups

Big Facebook groups, the ones with thousands and thousands of people, that’s where a lot of our ideal clients are hanging out. Here’s the strategy: I would spend a decent amount of time in those groups looking for ways to get visible, not necessarily dropping my offer, but I would give advice, solid advice. Because it isn’t just about the person asking. It’s about everybody else that was also flocking to that post that has the same questions. It allows you to get visible and position yourself as an expert.

#3 Emailing

Staying active in large Facebook groups leads me to my next strategy. First, I would look for the person that actually needed help and I would comment along with 100 other people that also commented. Now it’s time to take it a step further.  Don’t just dump a link and say “message me”. Take the time to pitch in the comment and show them that you actually read their question and understand their problem.  Finally, I would find their information online and I would send them an email saying “I’m reaching out because I saw your post needing X, Y, and Z”.

People are looking for above and beyond. People are looking for that little extra personal touch. These things matter. So I would also find them on Instagram, and I would send them a voice note “I saw your comment and I just wanted to reach out personally”. When you do it right, when you take the time to customize, it can be so effective.

#4 Showing up every day.

Show up every single day. Now, it doesn’t mean I don’t take breaks on the weekend and for planned vacations, but I make it a point to show up almost every single day. Being consistent builds an immense amount of authority and trust, especially if you’re showing up in a way that positions you as the authority that supports your offers. Do not underestimate what consistency will do for your business day after day, month after month, year after year. It’s not your silver bullet. But it’s your long-term momentum strategy.

So in summary, free offers that serve a purpose, getting visible in Facebook groups, sending emails and showing up consistently every single day, are strategies that worked back then and still work today. If it’s been a little dry lately and you need to increase your sales, these are 100%= strategies you should use. I promise you, you’ll see a big difference.
