I’m starting a cleaning business. And no, I’m not losing my mind or shutting down my coaching business. In fact, I haven’t felt this invigorated about my work in years. Here’s the truth: watching myself build a new business from scratch using the exact framework I teach my clients has been the ultimate confidence boost. It’s proven what I already knew—this stuff works. And I’m about to show you exactly how I’m doing it.
Why a Cleaning Business? (And Why I’m Not Crazy)
Let me address the elephant in the room. You’re probably thinking, “Peggy, you’re a business coach. Why the hell are you starting a cleaning business?”
Because cleaning service-based businesses are lucrative, simple to set up, and don’t require massive startup costs. You just need the right structure, the right people, and the right marketing. And I happen to have all three.
My parents have run a successful cleaning business for over a decade. They’ve built it on word-of-mouth and kept it small—just family members. They never scaled beyond that. But I see the potential. When I talked to my mom about it, she gave me her blessing and agreed to help me launch. My first job as a teenager was cleaning houses, so I’m familiar with the industry. I just don’t plan on doing it myself.
Why I’m Not Scaling My Current Business Instead
This isn’t an either/or situation. I’m not abandoning my coaching business. I’ve scaled it, and I’ll continue to—just differently. You’ll see changes that will make my one-on-one coaching a higher investment as I lean more into my membership.
But I’ve wanted another revenue stream for a while, and this finally hit me at the right time. I want to financially support my extended family and create something they can work in with me—not just hand them checks.
The beauty of a home service cleaning business is the expansion potential. My husband comes from construction. I have in-laws with lawn care businesses. My dad’s a handyman. My husband’s dad is an electrician. We come from a family of tradesmen, and I see serious potential to expand beyond cleaning down the road.
The Vision: A Hands-Off Business That Doesn’t Require My Brain
Here’s what I love most: this business isn’t me-centric. In coaching, your brain is your greatest commodity. I wanted something that doesn’t require my brain or body to do the manual labor.
I’ve accepted I’ll probably work more than 20 hours a week initially—maybe 20 in the cleaning business and 20 in coaching once things ramp up. But I’m structuring this to be as hands-off as possible. I’ll manage the business until I hire a manager, which I fully intend to do.
This business will give my kids jobs as they grow up. It’s flexible for moms who want work while kids are in school but don’t want full-time commitments. I’m excited about creating opportunities and serving my community. Plus, I have a solid network here, and I’m a marketing genius. Getting business won’t be an issue.
Following My Own Framework (And Why It Feels So Good)
I’m building this from the ground up, and what’s incredible is using my own framework and watching it work flawlessly. There’s no “what do I do next?” paralysis. I know exactly what the next step is.
People ask, “Are you looking for jobs yet?” No. The business structure has to be set up first. When someone says they’re ready for cleaning services, I need a system to put them in, the right pricing, an invoice to send, and a team member to assign them to.
I’m working through my system: foundations first, then structure, pricing, offers, online storefront, then marketing, then customers. This process has breathed new appreciation into what I’ve created. What I teach daily is solid and applies to all types of businesses—service providers and coaches alike.
It’s been amazing for my confidence. I’m just going to create a business, and it’s going to be successful because I know what I’m doing.
No, I’m Not Going to Be Cleaning
Let me be clear: I will not be cleaning. Could there be an emergency where I’d have to? Sure. And yes, I’d know what I’m doing. But I’d hate every second of it.
I’m bringing on seasoned house cleaners from the start. My parents are master cleaners with over a decade of experience, and they’re helping train new team members. I’m putting quality care managers in place.
Most cleaning businesses start with the owner doing the cleaning and slowly building. Nothing wrong with that, but I don’t have to do that. And I’m excited to show people you don’t have to either. So many entrepreneurs get paralyzed asking, “How would I pay for that? How would I know I’m profitable? How would I hire before I have revenue?”
The truth is, the structure is the same for any simple and sustainable business. It could be cleaning, a restaurant, or consulting. The framework doesn’t change.
What This Means for You
I’m documenting this entire journey on TikTok. The response has been wild. Cleaning business owners who are currently doing all the cleaning themselves are following because they want to scale like I’m planning to. This is opening up a whole new avenue for teaching and coaching.
This experience has reminded me of the energy I had when I first started—when I didn’t care how much I was working because I was so pumped. That excitement is specific to new beginnings, and I know it won’t last forever. But I’m riding it hard right now.
I’ve already gotten haters saying, “That’s dumb. You can’t do that without cleaning.” Watch me. This isn’t some delusional goal. I know how to do this. Will it be perfect every day? No. But it’s going to work, and it’s going to be awesome.
The framework I’m following to build a simple, sustainable, and scalable business from scratch is the exact same one I teach inside the Grow Business and Marketing Membership. This is my proven system—the one I use for my own businesses, including this new cleaning venture.
