The path (business) of least resistance

What if the business idea you keep brushing off — the one that feels “too small” or “too obvious” — is actually the fastest path to the income and freedom you’re after? I had a clarity call recently that I can’t stop thinking about. Not because it was complicated, but because of how simple the answer turned out to be — once we stopped overthinking it.

Here’s what I want you to take from this: choosing the path of least resistance isn’t giving up. Sometimes, it’s the smartest strategy in the room.

Meet “Sarah” — Serial Entrepreneur, Busy Mom, Ready to Simplify

Sarah booked a free clarity call with me. She’s a serial entrepreneur, a busy mom of five, and she has one clear goal: work about 10 hours a week, make good money, and live her life. No fuss, no soul-filling mission required — just a simple, profitable business that works. Her plan? Go into business consulting for small businesses, because she’s scaled her own companies and helped others do the same.

Not a bad idea. But not the path of least resistance, either.

The Problem With “General Business Consultant”

Business consulting is a saturated space. When we dug into her ideal clients, we quickly realized the types of small businesses she’d be targeting — the ones who’ve never invested in a consultant before — are often the hardest to sell to and the slowest to pay. Getting someone who’s never hired a business consultant to invest in a package is an uphill battle. That’s not the kind of resistance you want when your goal is simplicity.

The Pivot That Changed Everything

I asked her a simple question: what businesses have you actually built and been successful at? That’s when she mentioned her floral business. She built it from scratch — learned design, learned how to scale, grew it to be really successful — and then had to close it when her family moved. Her words? “I know exactly how I would do it again.” She even had people asking her a couple of times a year to teach them how.

Right there. That’s the path of least resistance.

Why a Tiny Niche Is Your Biggest Advantage

Here’s what most people get wrong about niching down: they think a smaller market means fewer clients. It doesn’t. It means more authority, clearer messaging, and higher perceived value. If you’re looking to start a floral business, who are you hiring — a general business consultant, or the person who’s actually built a successful floral business from the ground up? You’re hiring the specialist every time. And you’d pay more for them, too.

This works online and it works globally. There is a floral shop on every corner in every city in the world. You will not run out of leads. And when your niche is that specific, everything gets simpler — your messaging, your content, your offers, your systems. You’re not reinventing the wheel for every single client.

The Real Reason She Had Imposter Syndrome

When Sarah imagined herself as a business consultant, she felt overwhelmed. All those different types of businesses, all those different problems to solve — it felt chaotic, even though she knew she could technically help them. That overwhelm? That was her gut telling her something. The imposter syndrome wasn’t about her abilities. It was about the misalignment between the path she was choosing and the one that actually fit her. When we shifted to the floral niche, the overwhelm disappeared. The clarity was immediate.

When the Path of Least Resistance Is the Right Call

Let me be straight with you: I’m not telling everyone to default to easy. If something lights you up and you’re willing to do the work, even the harder, longer path can be the right one. But if your goals are freedom, flexibility, and income — if you want to work less and earn more — then you need to be honest about whether the direction you’re heading actually supports that. If it’s not working right now, you’re not losing much by pivoting. Just because you’ve been doing something for a while doesn’t mean you’re locked in.

You can have a very simple business and make six figures. The question is how — and whether you’re pointing yourself in the right direction to get there.

Stop Overlooking What You Already Know

The answer you’re looking for is probably closer than you think. The thing you’ve already built, the thing people keep asking you about, the skill that feels second nature to you — that might be exactly the business that gets you to six figures on part-time hours. Sometimes the path of least resistance looks too simple to be “real.” That’s how you know it’s worth looking at.

If you’re sitting with the feeling that something isn’t working — or you’re just not sure if you’re pointed in the right direction — I have two ways I can help you right now:

Business Audit: I’ll take a look at your business — your website, your services, your pricing, your goals — and identify the bottlenecks, the gaps, and the opportunities you might not be seeing. I send you my findings via a video screen share straight to your inbox. This is a free offer (for now), and spots are limited.

Free 30-Minute Clarity Call: Book a call with me and we’ll talk through your business, your goals, and exactly what needs to shift to move the needle. No obligation, just real direction.

You can simplify, systematize, and scale. Let’s figure out what that looks like for you.
