I can sniff out an untrained ChatGPT caption from a mile away. You probably can too. It’s generic, it’s a little robotic, and it sounds like it could belong to literally anyone in your industry. That’s not an AI problem. That’s a training problem. So today I’m walking you through exactly how I trained my AI to sound like me, so you can stop posting content that sounds like everybody else’s.
Where I Actually Stand on the AI Debate
I’m not going to pretend the AI debate doesn’t exist. It’s going to steal your creativity, it’s going to make everyone sound the same, it’s going to make you sound like a robot. There’s truth in all of it, and I fall somewhere in the middle. I’ve been in business since 2018. I built a 60-lesson course in 2021 with zero AI, so every framework, every formula, and every original thought I feed into ChatGPT is already mine. I’m not asking it to think for me. I’m using it as a tool to save time, not to create an original thought I don’t already have. That distinction is everything, and it’s exactly why training it matters so much.
Step 1: Gather Everything That Makes You, You
Before you write a single prompt, gather your materials. Start with your ideal client worksheet and get crystal clear on your unique position. Add a detailed summary of your services and the transformation you provide. Pull copy straight from your website and your sales pages. Then collect every piece of original content you’ve ever written: emails, captions, blog posts, podcast transcripts, all of it. If your website visuals really capture your brand energy, screenshot those too. This is the boring part, and it’s also the part most people skip. Skip it, and you’re asking ChatGPT to sound like you without ever showing it who you are.
Step 2: Upload It In Chunks, Then Fact-Check the Summary
Don’t dump everything into one giant prompt. Upload your materials in chunks and tell ChatGPT exactly what you’re doing: you’re building a brand voice guide it will reference every time it creates content for your business. Once everything is uploaded, ask for a summary. This step is non-negotiable. Read that summary line by line, because ChatGPT gets things wrong. Fix anything that’s off, re-upload with your corrections, and now you have a brand voice guide you can drop into any new chat, or hand off to a social media manager who needs to sound like you too.
Step 3: Stop Being Lazy With Your Prompts
Asking for “a post about content creation” is the laziest way to use ChatGPT, and it’s a guaranteed path to generic, boring output. Instead, riff. Talk to it like your bestie is on the other line. Tell it the topic, tell it why you’re fired up about it, tell it the story behind the point you want to make. Then ask it to turn that into a caption. You’ll get something good because you actually used your voice first. Your brand voice guide fills in the rest, but you’ll still read through it, still check the hook, still check the call to action. It might only take a couple of minutes, but that edit pass is what separates content that sounds like you from content that sounds like a template.
Step 4: Steal the Hook, Keep Your Voice
Sometimes you don’t start with a riff. Sometimes you scroll and see a hook that stops you cold, one you know would work for your business too. Drop that hook into ChatGPT and ask it to build a caption around it. It’s a lazier way to create, sure, but if you’ve actually trained your chat and fed it a library of content written in your voice, it does a genuinely solid job. You’ll still edit a little, but not much.
Why This Actually Matters
None of this makes ChatGPT perfect. Mine gets it right about 85 to 90 percent of the time, and that’s plenty, because it saves me hours and helps me create more. Visibility is competitive. You’re competing with everyone else trying to get their message in front of the same audience, and seven pieces of good content will always outperform three. Good is the operative word. Train your AI properly, and you can create good content quickly instead of settling for random content that blends in.
Training your AI to sound like you is one system. Inside the Marketing Sprint, I hand you an entire 30-day content and lead generation system to go with it, including the caption template and the step-by-step guide to training your chat that I mentioned. You’ll get a live training, daily content prompts, a daily lead generation challenge, access to me in a group Voxer chat, and multiple coworking calls, all for $97. It’s the fastest way to end Q4 with real momentum instead of guessing what to post. Grab your spot in the show notes and join the Marketing Sprint.
